Placed under a cottonwood tree the softened pyramids sit in a ring, surrounded by lush green grass. The pyramids’ surface references that of a bubble. Bubbles are captivating; their iridescence is even more captivating because of their ephemerality. The Cycle of Growth is a site-specific piece set in a place that holds the precious memory of my son taking his first steps. This is a fascinating time for any parent. Because we are so young when we, ourselves, walk for the first time, no one remembers their own first steps. The memory of this moment is only ever perceived from another person’s perspective. What an important time learning to walk is for a new human. There is struggle, triumph and most importantly growth.
A visual poem is featured by glyphs in the grass; talking about the cycle each of us go through in order to grow. Our ever-changing bodies demand for us to continually learn how to interact with our world. Experiences we have guide our development over time, and this development is made up of moments. We forget most of these moments of growth, and some of them live on as fragments in the memories of others. The process we each go through is one of change, challenge, growth, and risk. Life is a constant cycle we each exist within, eternal and ephemeral.
